The Code of Conduct covers the areas of competence, conduct and professionalism in members' duties to employers and clients, to the profession and to the Institution as well as members' obligations to safeguard the public interest. We have recently made some updates to our Code of Conduct that we would like to share with you.

Here’s a quick summary to guide you through what’s changing:

  • Addition of support for ‘whistle-blowers’ under the section Honesty and Integrity
  • Professional Conduct Panel (PCP) terms of reference to include where a complaint is made against a member who is an Engineering Council registrant, CIHT members of the PCP will be EngC registrants
  • The right of appeal for members and complainants to be built in at the preliminary investigation stage as well as following the final PCP outcome
  • Clarification regarding ‘suspension’ of membership
  • Addition of section on retention of records
