The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) launched its first report today ‘Building a low-carbon economy’, which advises the Government to reduce greenhouse gases by at least 34% by 2020.  The UK has also passed legislation which introduces the world’s first long term legally binding framework to tackle the dangers of climate change, with The Climate Change Bill introduced into Parliament on 14 November 2007 and becoming law on 26 November 2008. Copies of the Climate Change Act 2008 can be found on the OPSI .

Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Ed Miliband, welcomed the passing of the new legislation, heralding it as the beginning of a major shift in the UK's approach to climate change.  "Setting the 80 per cent target was the easy part: now the work really begins," he said. "Government, communities, businesses and individuals need to work together to bring about change."
