140430_Hampden_224Detailed traffic management plans around sporting venues in Glasgow have been revealed ahead of this summer's Commonwealth Games.

A series of maps have been produced by the Get Ready Glasgow campaign to provide a venue by venue guide of traffic management and parking measures.

The plans are designed to manage the flow of spectators and promote walking, cycling and public transport as the best ways to get to the Games, encouraging spectators to leave their cars at home.

Glasgow 2014 transport manager John Fryer said: “The success of the Games do not start and end inside the venues. We want to make sure that everyone attending is able to get around the city quickly, safely and easily.”

Temporary measures will protect residents and businesses around venues from informal spectator parking. They will also ensure Games related transport, such as that for athletes, is able to get to venues on time.

Information sessions for businesses to be held during May will cover specific plans for what travel and parking options are available.

Head of Transport Scotland's 2014 team Hugh Gillies said: “Business and journey planning is crucial for organisations in and around the city to ensure they can enjoy all the Games has to offer while still operating as close to usual as possible.”

Similar traffic management measures have been announced in Edinburgh around aquatic venue the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
