Two major transportation sector acquisitions have completed this week.
Engineering design consultant Aecom has confirmed its acquisition of URS Corporation to create a new combined business, in a deal worth around £3.5Bn. Meanwhile Arcadis successfully puchased Hyder Consulting after the Dutch firm saw off competition from Japanese consultant Nippon Koei in September.
The company comprising Aecom and URS will have more than 95,000 employees in 150 countries.
Aecom chief executive officer Michael Burke said: “The combination of Aecom and URS dramatically accelerates our strategy of creating an integrated delivery platform with superior capabilities to design, build, finance and operate infrastructure assets around the world.”
This year's Transportation Consultants Directory reported URS as the number one consultant ranked by turnover (£6.5Bn) and number one transportation consultant (£1Bn). Aecom came seventh in both lists: (£430M and £105M).
Arcadis’ takeover of 4600 person strong Hyder took place alongside its purchase of architecture firm Callison. These new acquisitions are expected to help strengthen Arcadis’ position in the UK, North America, continental Europe and emerging markets.
These latest acquisitions will add more than £395M in gross revenues to Arcadis, increasing its gross revenues to £2.37Bn.
Hyder Consulting was ranked 14th in the 2014 Transportation Consultants Directory with a turnover of £99.5M, of which around half is in transportation.
