Government is seeking views on bringing forward the end to the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and vans from 2040 to 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible.

The Department for Transport are asking for views on:

  • the phase out date
  • the definition of what should be phased out
  • barriers to achieving the above proposals
  • the impact of these ambitions on different sectors of industry and society
  • what measures are required by government and others to achieve the earlier phase out date

The consultation does not include further background information than the above, but for more information if you are interested the following can be recommended:

CIHT launched a survey on climate change issues earlier in the year asking our members about the barriers and solutions to speed up the introduction of electric vehicles. These insights will inform our response to the consultation. We always appreciate our members input in to our policy work, so feel free to get in touch via technical@ciht.org.uk

The consultation closes on 31 July 2020.
