CIHT has helped contributed to a new guide from Climate UK on planning and maintaining climate resilient local highways. Climate UK has published this guide to planning and maintaining climate resilient local highways as part of a national conversation about improving the resilience of local highway networks across the country.
The guide discussed the risks posed to highways, risk assessment methods, plus potential solutions to extreme weather and future climate impacts on local highway networks. It contains case studies and example of real-life situations that highways authorities are dealing with across England.
This guide accompanies a series of 8 events were held in summer 2013 across the country, bringing together local authorities and officers working on highways resilience. The events each started with a specially recorded video message from Norman Baker MP, Minister for Transport which can be viewed here.

The events and guidance were organised by the Climate Change Partnerships and supported by the Environment Agency's Climate Ready service, in conjunction with ADEPT, the Department of Transport, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transport and Institution of Civil Engineers. The project was managed by Climate Change Northwest and AILSA.org on behalf of Climate UK.
