Immediate Past President, David Tarrant, recently visited the Far East on a business trip for Gifford. Whilst in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur he took the opportunity to touch base with the Hong Kong and Malaysia Branch Committees who gave David and his wife Chris a very warm welcome and it was good to renew friendships from last year’s visit.

Both Branch Committees organised dinners, hosted by Eric Ma and Ismail Salleh, the respective Chairman, which were most enjoyable and gave David and the Branches the opportunity to share news and views about the highways and transportation business as well as Institution matters.

It was clear from the discussion that the Asia Pacific economy is booming in comparison to Europe with significant investment in infrastructure of all types. Both Branches were also keen to learn more about how the Royal Charter was impacting on the Institution. It was also clear that both Branches are doing very well with high level meetings and site visits all part of the year’s activities. All in all a great demonstration of the wider value and out reach of CIHT.
