The Transport-Technology Research and Innovation Grant (T-TRIG) programme, is available for entrepreneurs and innovators pioneering new ways of creating a better transport system, with individual investments being made up to a maximum of £30,000 for each project. The T-TRIG fund is designed to help innovators and start-ups to develop new transport technology ideas and support the best ones to reach the market quicker.
The 2019 T-TRIG programme was announced by George Freeman, Minister of State for the Future of Transport, earlier this week and will remain open until 29 October.
The scope of the call is to fund ideas from across the whole of the transport technology spectrum with special emphasis given to look at how the transport system can be de-carbonised, how systems can become age friendly and accessible to all and how better resilience can be built into transport infrastructure.
Now in its 10th round of funding, the government has provided £4.6 million via this grant programme over the past five years with more than 140 technology and innovation projects taking advantage of the fund.
Investment from the T-TRIG fund has often been a precursor to further funding from private investors, and over £25 million in additional investment, largely from the private sector, has been secured off the back of successful projects awarded funding since the scheme began.
The funding is a key part of the UK’s Future of Mobility Grand Challenge strategy, which is taking advantage of the extraordinary innovation in UK engineering and technology to help the government deliver better journeys for all.
