The Department of Transport has published a review of evidence surrounding the trends of road travel and the factors that may be contributing to these - called ‘Understanding the drivers of road travel’.   This is supported by two literature reviews on car traffic levels and road demand elasticities.

The Department have also published the statistics for the Strategic Road Network.
