Supporting Better Streets for People and Places
Streets and roads make up around three quarters of all public space in England. Their design, appearance and day to day function have a profound impact on people’s lives, the economic and social vitality of communities, and environmental sustainability.
The original guidance documents — Manual for Streets and Manual for Streets 2 — remain available and should continue to be used by all practitioners involved in street design and maintenance. Together, they provide complementary advice for residential streets and busier urban routes.
