The Department of Transport (DfT) is seeking views on proposals to give metro mayors and their combined authorities greater decision-making powers and accountability with regards to the Key Route Network (KRN).
KRNs are a network of some of the most important roads in a combined authority which Mayoral Combined Authorities (MCAs) and its constituent authorities both hold powers.
This consultation, as a part of the step change in Levelling Up agenda, proposes to empower Mayors outside of London and their MCAs with more highway powers and responsibilities to deliver transport priorities.
