 The new targets support a Programme for Government commitment to target high-risk road users such as motor cyclists, young drivers and vulnerable road users through education, engineering and enforcement.

The new safety targets, which are to be achieved by the end of 2012, are:

  • An overall reduction in the number of people killed and seriously injured on Welsh roads by 50% ( 83 people compared with the record low achieved in 2010)
  • The number of children killed or seriously injured on Welsh roads reduced by 65% ( seven children compared with the record low in 2010)
