ECUK have recently published Registration Statistics for 2008.

IHT had the fourth highest growth rate of all 36 engineering institutions (in terms of the register) – growing 14.93% compared to the average, which declined by 2.28%.

IHT registered 300 Final CEng’s and is registering women at a rate close to much larger institutions such as IMArEST and RINA.

Please see the ECUK Annual Registration Statistics 2008 report for more details

The report summary highlights four key issues to note:

  • The net increase in the total number of final stage EngTechs for the fourth successive year

  • For the second year in a row over 11% of the total of new Chartered Engineers are female. There has also been another increase in the number of new female Engineering Technicians.

  • The number of final stage registrants (CEng, IEng, and EngTech) aged 65 and over (page 14) has passed 55,000 (23.73% of the total number of final stage registrants). Including those aged 60-64, the total equates to 36.43%.

  • The average age of removal from the Register for final stage CEng registrants is 63.7 (down from 64.0 in 2007), which continues to indicate that, once registered, Chartered Engineers retain their CEng registration until around the time of retirement.
