Transport for London’s head of campaigns, communications and engagement Jo Field MCIHT (pictured) has won a prestigious award for her efforts to attract and retain women in the sector.
Jo was named ‘Industry Champion’ at the Everywoman Transport & Logistics Awards last Thursday. She won the award in recognition of her work as a volunteer on the board of professional networking group WTS, support of her employer’s women staff network group committee and for establishing TfL’s Youth Panel. She has also recently helped to set up an All Party Parliamentary Group for Women in Transport.
Jo is a champion of the 100 Years of Women in Transport campaign, has helped to develop a recruitment campaign for social media and often speaks in schools to inspire the next generation of young people to consider a transport related career.
“I’m delighted and honoured to win this award,” she said.
Encouraging more women into the industry is something, she says, she is passionate about. “Transport is quite a male dominated industry and there is always more we need to do.”
Before joining TfL nine years ago Jo worked in the voluntary youth sector heading up a policy and public affairs team. “There are many different jobs you can do in transport that not everybody is aware of and we are trying to get more people to understand the range of jobs available.”
Jo became a member of CIHT in April 2015.
