ASCs are the latest generation of the Highways Agency’s maintenance contracts and are replacing the Managing Agent Contracts. The key difference is that contractors now commit to achieving outcomes rather than meeting a detailed and prescriptive specification which creates freedom to innovate. ASCs also cover work up to £5M rather than than the MAC limit of £500,000.
ASC9 will cover routes within the counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Shropshire as well as the Metropolitan Boroughs of Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley and the City of Birmingham. The current MAC incumbent is Amey.
Tenders are currently being assessed for Areas 6 (East Anglia), 8 (North of London) and 3 (West of London).
More information can be found in the current edition of Transportation Professional.
