With a hundred years of CIHT membership and 15 years holding the post of Honorary Secretary of the Northern Ireland Branch between them, the racing four set off down the Lagan on Sunday the 21st March 2010. The crew was ably stroked by international oarsman, Stephen Lockwood, Managing Director of Doran Consulting, demonstrating the ultimate in sustainable transport.  At number three David Hughes, more often seen in a kayak, tried to keep up with the timing and hot pace. David is a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast and was Chairman of the Branch in 2000; he is also a CIHT Council member. Douglas Ferguson on stroke side at position 2, another keen oarsman and member of The Lady Victoria Boat Club added maturity and experience to the crew. Douglas has recently retired from QUB and was Chairman in 1987, he also holds the Certificate of Merit from CIHT.   Geoffrey Perrin, who rowed competitively at Dublin University Boat Club, was in the bows, at the sharp end. Geoffrey was Chairman of the Branch in 2006 and recently retired as the senior partner from Ferguson and McIlveen (now part of the Scott Wilson Group). He has also been Chairman of the ICE Northern Ireland Branch.   On their way they took the opportunity to carry out a passing engineering inspection of Farran's cofferdam!!
The crew was expertly coxed by international rowing umpire Ian James who although not in the CIHT is a longstanding member of ICE and held the post of River Manager for the Laganside Corporation until his retirement.
The event was recorded by keen photographer Billy McCoubrey, retired Head of Roads Service and ex President of CIHT (1998-99)
