Today the government published its new housing strategy for England seeking to reform the housing market and boost the supply of new homes.  The White Paper:  ‘Fixing our broken housing market’.

The government outlines in the White Paper its measures to:
  • Plan for the right homes in the right places
  • Build homes faster
  • Diversify the housing market
  • Help people now

The strategy does acknowledge the role of planning and how this must integrate with transport.  CIHT raised this point in a number of consultation responses including the National Policy Planning Framework (NPPF).

The White Paper notes (p14):  Development is about far more than just building homes. Communities need roads, rail links, schools, shops, GP surgeries, parks, playgrounds and a sustainable natural environment. Without the right infrastructure, no new community will thrive – and no existing community will welcome new housing if it places further strain on already stretched local resources.

The White Paper is available here:  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fixing-our-broken-housing-market
The consultation closes on 2 May 2017.  CIHT members can contribute views to technical@ciht.org.uk
