Last week the Government announced £15m of new funding to improve cycling facilities at train stations.
The improvements will make it easier for people to ride bicycles and use trains by providing more and better cycle parking and other cycle-friendly facilities at railway stations, helping cut pollution and ease congestion on our roads.
The body which brings together the rail industry and the cycling sector, the Cycle Rail Working Group, will allocate the funding.
The news comes as the Department for Transport publishes an update to its Door to door strategy. The paper, which was launched in March 2013, supports an increase in cycling facilities at train stations.
The updated paper states that Chelmsford is reporting 98% usage of its external cycle parking, Marylebone is reporting 91% usage of the new facilities, and all First Capital Connect schemes are reporting between 80 - 90% usage of the new facilities.
This demonstrates a high demand for good quality and secure cycle facilities at railway stations.
The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation welcome this new funding which will help to deliver additional secure cycle facilities at stations and help to meet the current demand for new and improved cycle parking.
