CIHT is offering additional support to recent graduates looking to get started in a highways and transportation career with launch this week of a new Graduate Membership grade.
The GradCIHT grade is tailored to meet the needs of graduate engineers and transport planners who are just beginning their professional careers. CIHT says membership offers young professionals access to industry best practice and mentoring by experienced professionals who already work in the sector.
To take advantage of these benefits, CIHT recommends new graduate members should engage with the Institution locally through the Young Professionals groups in its regional Branches, as well as attend technical and social events to develop knowledge and build a network of contacts.
CIHT director of education and membership Sue Stevens said: “The future of the industry depends on the calibre of the young people who choose to make a career in highways and transportation.
“This new grade of Graduate Member is designed to provide new entrants to the industry with the support they need to progress and develop as professionals.”
The Institution also provides support for young engineers looking to become qualified as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or an Engineering Technician and transport planners seeking professional recognition through the Transport Planning Professional qualification.
To be eligible for the GradCIHT grade applicants must hold a UK degree, or equivalent, gained during the last 12 months, and be employed or be actively seeking employment in the highways and transportation sector.
