Transport Scotland has let the prestigious A82 £2M single supplier design framework agreement to a Halcrow Fairhurst joint venture.
The joint venture beat off competition for the job which includes sensitive, world leading tourist areas such as Loch Lomond from Jacobs, URS, AECOM and Amey.
Halcrow and Fairhurst will carry out investigations, appraisal, design, and reporting of options for an upgrade of a 16km section of the A82 between Tarbet and a point north of Inverarnan. The project will provide a significant boost to local businesses and tourism in the area by improving access to the Trossachs National Park as well as Loch Lomond.
The Halcrow Fairhurst Joint Venture will apply the ‘Fitting Roads’ approach it developed with Transport Scotland, which focuses on working with the natural landscape, tailoring design development to reduce environmental impact as much as possible.
Scotland’s transport minister Keith Brown said: “The design and survey work which is shortly to get under way will help identify a preferred alignment for the future upgrade of the route which contains some of the most striking scenery in Scotland, framed by the rugged hillsides and western shore of Loch Lomond.
“The area presents many engineering challenges and the alignment will be designed to fit with the landscape and environment and help to maintain the renowned beauty of the National Park.
“The work we are doing along this vital route will lead to improved road safety and journey time reliability and meet the needs of business, communities and visitors alike.”
Halcrow was acquired by 30,000 strong CH2MHill in 2011.
