Are you a CIHT Fellow and want to get more involved with CIHT? Now is your chance! CIHT’s Committees and Panels are our window into the profession. They represent the views of highways and transportation professionals, lending their expertise and knowledge to ensure that our work reflects the issues that matter most to our members. We are looking for CIHT Fellows to join our Membership Application Panel (MAP) and ensure the future direction of the sector is in safe hands and that the contribution of its members are recognised.

The Panel admits members as Fellows of CIHT by reviewing CIHT Fellows’ applications and agreeing a list of candidates to put forward for Fellowship.
Why join?
Joining a Panel is a fantastic way to complement your career, benefit from the prestige of Panel membership, gain deeper insight into the sector, make new contacts and share ideas. You also can make a mark on the profession by influencing the future leaders of the sector.
Reflecting the views of your colleagues, raising the profile of your sector and influencing the direction of the profession are hugely rewarding, which is why many members seek to get involved with CIHT.
Who can join?
We welcome prospective Panel members who are currently contributing to the profession in a recognised area of roads/highways and/or transportation practice or recently retired. You must be a CIHT Fellow to join MAP.
What do I need to join?
You will need a broad knowledge of the roads, highways and/or transportation profession and current practice as well as an understanding of CIHT’s vision, mission, values and the strategic objectives of the organisation.
In addition, we are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about the future of the sector with sound, independent judgement and the ability to work well as a team.
What is the commitment?
The term of office is three years. Many of the duties will be undertaken remotely and on average the post-holder will review two to three Fellowship applications a month. This has the potential to increase in relation to specific campaigns, for example during the summer when CIHT traditionally runs a free transfer period.
Current Chair of MAP, Ross Speirs commented on his term on MAP that ‘Being on the Panel has given me further opportunities to give back to the profession by ensuring, in a some small way, that we continue to have highly qualified professionals within the transportation sphere who, themselves continue to promote and develop all aspects of transportation engineering’.
At CIHT, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in CIHT’s membership.
If you are interested in joining, please see the detailed role description and complete the online application form or contact membership@ciht.org.uk for more information.
