Four online presentations were launched on 1 March to help local authority staff to better understand the Highways Maintenance Efficiency Programme. The ‘webinars’ have been developed by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation in association with the Department for Transport and are available to view for free at www.ciht.org.uk/hmepWebinar
Webinar number one features an overview by HMEP advocate Matthew Lugg about new procurement products designed to better inform decision makers prior to inviting tenders. Webinars two, three and four are delivered by consultant John Amos, Joe Dowling of the Collaborative Working Centre and Ed Varley of URS respectively.
The webinar page also allows visitors to click through to the HMEP website to view all available documents regarding the programme. CIHT members who watch and listen to the webinar can apply to the Institution to have their new found knowledge qualify for Continuing Professional Development.
HMEP is designed to maximise returns on roads investment by local highway authorities and to deliver efficient and effective services. Financial savings of between 15 and 20% are sought through the initiative. HMEP represents a partnership between public and private sectors including central government representatives, companies and those from local highway authorities.
The programme runs until 2018 and is sponsored by DfT which is providing £6M of funding.
