Carillion/Morgan Sindall, Kier Strategic Highways and Skanska were among the big winners last week at an award ceremony recognising Highways England’s supply chain.

The Supplier Recognition Scheme 2015 saw 166 entries in eight categories; a 40% increase in the number of submissions on the year before.

Winners included four small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and six members of the extended supply chain, the majority of which worked in partnership with Highways England’s ‘Tier One’ direct suppliers.

This year’s scheme also saw the introduction of a new ‘Communities’ prize. This recognises suppliers able to demonstrate they had engaged with community groups from the outset of schemes and incorporated their needs.

Highways England’s chief executive Jim O’Sullivan said: “To have surpassed last year’s success is tremendous and it’s a credit to our suppliers who are demonstrating they can continuously improve to provide even better working practices and more innovative solutions.

“As we place even more emphasis on safety and customer service for all who use our network, my message to suppliers is thanks and let’s continue to improve together.

“This is good progress and we must make sure that by 2020 we can be proud of the delivery of the first Road Investment Strategy and well placed to deliver the next one.”
