Details of the phase two route for HS2 were released today (28 Jan 2013) by the Department for Transport. The route will link Birmingham with Manchester, the East Midlands, Sheffield and Leeds.

CIHT believe that HS2 must demonstrate economic benefit and value for money to the UK economy and that it can reduce congestion on our roads. Depending on the outcome of Heathrow and airport capacity decisions, the UK Government should consider connecting HS2 with Heathrow to ensure maximising of hub capacity.

CIHT are ready to respond to all the relevant stages in the development of HS2, including discussions about deployment of the released capacity on the existing lines when HS2 is in operation.

There will be an oral statement by the Secretary of State for Transport to the House of Comons at 3.30pm today (28 Jan 2013).
