Work to deliver London’s Elizabeth Line is now in its final stages as preparations continue to open the railway at the end of this year, new images released by Crossrail show.
Stations built beneath the capital are being fitted out with remaining architectural finishes and equipment, while installation of overhead power systems is complete in the tunnels and all platform screen doors are in place.
Trains are also being tested in east London between Abbey Wood and Canary Wharf using a new automatic train control system which will operate in the central section of the 118km route. New footage has been released showing these trials under way. To watch,

Last week, the Elizabeth Line tunnels also became fully ‘energised’ when overhead power equipment was successfully switched on between Westbourne Park and Stepney.
“With just seven months to go until the opening of the Elizabeth Line, which will transform travel across the city, it’s great to see testing ramping up beneath the streets of London,” said London Underground managing director Mark Wild.
But, he said: “Much more hard work is still to be done on completing stations, testing signalling and training staff.”
Later this year, the first completed infrastructure will be handed over to Transport for London which will lead a trial and commissioning phase ahead of the Elizabeth Line’s opening in December.
