Steve Berry OBE, Department for Transport said:

Today the Department for Transport  is celebrating the Road Heroes who work on our roads and the innovations that are helping to change the industry. Thank you to all those Road Heroes who work day and night and in all weather conditions to help keep us safe.

Giles Perkins, Head of Future Mobility at WSP said in the interview:

This is about the DfT providing funds to work in partnership; not only with the Live Labs successful areas but also with Atkins, Kier, EY, O2, Ringway and WSP who have all put resources into this programme in supporting the Live Lab programme over the two years.....we are not only designing the solutions for the future but we are also developing the skills for the future.  So thinking about those Road Heroes, I would hope that future Road Heroes are people that come out of this programme who have learnt things and deployed things and can really deliver those efficiencies for our highway network so it continues and improves the economic performance of our nation:  so we can move goods around more efficiently, so we can get people to get to education opportunities, we can improve the commute.  All those things we utterly depend upon.
