Highways Operations

Established Full Time (37hpw)

Would you like to work for a high performing authority that keeps millions of people on the move within and across North Yorkshire every year?

If the answer is ‘Yes’, then now is your chance to join the team that do.

In a county that covers over 8,000 square kilometres, contains two National Parks, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as some of the most beautiful market towns and dramatic countryside in the country, whether you live, work or travel through North Yorkshire, you will use the highway network.

We are looking to fill a number of key posts based in the Selby, Skipton, Kirby Misperton and Thirsk Area Offices that deliver highway maintenance / improvement schemes, emergency responses and one of the most comprehensive winter treatment (gritting) services in the country, all of which help keep people moving throughout the county whatever the weather.

Experienced in highway construction, maintenance and inspection techniques and treatments as well as a sound knowledge/experience of highway improvement techniques, you will be capable of delivering projects from inception to completion.

Furthermore, as an Improvement or Maintenance Manager, you will be able to lead and manage a team as well as assisting in the overall management of the office on a daily basis as part of the Area Management Team. In the role of Project Engineer you will design, supervise and deliver capital maintenance and improvement capital schemes as well as providing responses to the local planning authority on planning applications.

With a proven track record in performance management, you will be able to effectively manage budgets and other resources in order to maximise efficiency at a time when local government is subject to increasing and on-going challenge to achieve efficiency savings whilst minimising the impact on service levels.

The Highways and Transportation Service has recently implemented the new Highway Management Information System, Insight. The effective and efficient use of the system by all highways teams is now fundamental to successful service delivery.

To achieve this we are looking to enhance a management post within the service unit with an additional responsibility to embed the use of the new system into our operational teams. The additional responsibility requires a person with excellent communication skills and the ability to implement new ways of working and will attract an additional payment of two extra increments for a maximum period of two years. The successful candidate would be eligible to be considered alongside other managers in the service unit for this enhancement.

For further information on the specific posts available, contact details for informal enquiries and to apply, please visit www.nyccjobs.co.uk using the key words ‘Highways Operations’ in the job search facility.
