Two multi-million pound schemes to regenerate and improve transport links in Kent have been granted by the government.

The Department for Transport (DfT) will invest up to £81m to improve road connections around the M2. Areas include the Isle of Thanet, Canterbury and the European gateways of Ramsgate, Dover and the Channel Tunnel. The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) is providing almost £8m towards the cost of the road that will link the A249 and the eastern outskirts of the town.

Transport Minister, Paul Clark, said: "The government is committed to investing in key transport links which help boost economic growth."

Main construction works are due to start in September and expected to be completed in late 2011.
