Work to upgrade the M25 at junction 30 in Essex will start early next month and finish in the summer, Highways England announced on Tuesday. This means that the scheme will be completed several months earlier than first thought.
Dedicated left turn lanes and improvements to slip roads on the junction form part of the plans to increase highway capacity and reduce traffic congestion.
Highways England project manager Lizzie Pauling said: “The improvements to the A13 and M25 junction 30 will provide drivers with safer and more reliable journeys on these already heavily congested routes.
“Since construction started earlier this year we have identified an opportunity to start on the M25 earlier and finish the work in summer 2016, earlier than originally planned.”
Work already carried out as part of the M25 Junction 30/A13 corridor relieving congestion scheme include carriageway widening on the A13 and the construction of retaining walls to allow for additional space to build new lanes.
From next Monday a temporary 50MPH speed limit will be place on the M25 and a temporary 40MPH speed limit on the roundabout.
The scheme is being developed to support economic growth in the region and provide drivers with safer and more reliable journeys into and out of Essex.
Essex Chambers of Commerce director of policy David Burch said: “This is very welcome news indeed. Our members continually complain about congestion in that area so anything that can be done to bring forward the work will benefit businesses across the county.”
