The Government has responded following its consultation on the Major Road Network.  The Department for Transport says they will go ahead with their proposals for the creation of the Major Road Network with changes, including:

  • amendments to the criteria for defining the network of roads that will be eligible for MRN funding
  • refinement of role of Highways England in support this programme of work
  • greater flexibility in the application of the financial threshold

The consultation response sets out the final MRN principles and criteria by which decisions to allocate funding will be made and clarifies how the environmental impact of schemes will be considered.
