Overview

CIHT has recently been awarded funding by the Department for transport in the following areas:

Revising Manual for streets

CIHT has been awarded a grant by the Department for Transport to develop a revised Manual for Streets and will be seeking a consultant to help it deliver.

Research study into Visibility and Road Safety at Priority Junctions

Most highway professionals consider that providing adequate visibility splays at priority junctions is vitally important to minimise collisions and casualties. However, since the introduction of Manual for Streets in 2007, there has been uncertainty over the appropriate standard of visibility splay required in some circumstances and the implications on road safety if standards are not met.

CIHT has been awarded a grant of £100,000 from the Department for Transport safer roads fund to conduct research into this important topic.

Update

Last week, CIHT hosted webinars to launch the revising Manual for Streets and visibility research projects. The aim of the webinars was to give interested parties an overview of both projects and an opportunity to ask questions.

The webinars were well-attended with over 600 attendees. For the Manual for Streets webinar, around 20% of attendees would like to get involved as consultants, 35% as part of a stakeholder engagement group and 40% would just like to be kept up to date.  For the visibility webinar, around 15% of attendees would like to be involved as a consultant, 20% as part of a members advisory group and 64% would just like to be kept up to date.

What next?

Shortly hub pages for both projects will be created on the CIHT website which will host all updates and announcements for the projects. A link to the recordings of both webinars will be available on the relevant hub page.
