The Royal Academy of Engineering‘s This is Engineering has launched a new virtual museum, The Museum of Engineering Innovation.
Looking to celebrate the engineering that shapes our everyday lives and get more young people into the industry, the museum showcases exhibits from all over the country. Tailor-made for the pandemic era, visitors enter the museum using the digital platform Google Arts & Culture. Innovations range from an installation of the Severn bridge to an interactive photo exhibition about the manufacturing of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Seeking to expand the collection over time, the Museum is calling on organisations and individuals to nominate their own exhibits. These should be feats of engineering that are either tackling some of the biggest issues facing us today and/or making a difference to our everyday lives. Innovations can come from all engineering disciplines, including traditional areas of engineering as well as emerging technology innovations which are less commonly perceived as engineering.
To nominate, describe (in no more than 400 words) the problem that the exhibit addresses and how engineering solved the problem. Furthermore, explain specifically how the exhibit has made a difference, the impact it has had on our everyday lives and how it has shaped our present and future. To illustrate the story, please submit, in high res, images / videos that are virtually interesting to a wide audience. Please only submit those images of which you own the usage rights.
Please send your submission to contact@thisisengineering.org.uk by 12pm, 1 February 2021.
