National Highways today (19 May 2022) published their new approach to asset management.
National Highways manage 4,300 miles of road, over 20,000 structures, 12 road tunnels, as well as drainage, earthworks, and technology equipment. With customers relying on their roads to travel 95 billion miles every year. Asset management is clearly central to what National Highways do.
What National Highways say:
Asset management enables us to make good, consistent decisions about our assets throughout their lifecycle, that best meet the needs of our customers. It provides a clear line of sight from our objectives and outcomes to our delivery, translating our vision into costed programmes and activities that deliver our imperatives in a transparent way.
The Asset Management Policy and Approach outlines how every person in National Highways has a role to play. National Highways say that asset management is led by their people and supported through their processes and tools. Information is key to this, whereby teams bring together the information they have on the assets and the service delivered to our customers with the support of our suppliers.
