140730_HA_224Government has published an update to its National Infrastructure Plan online, showing progress with transport projects worth a total of over £140Bn.

The 2014 'Summer Refresh' from the Government includes a map showing the location of projects across the UK, their value and status. Of the 180 priority transport projects listed, 108 are active or under construction.

Planned infrastructure investment across all sectors has now increased to £383Bn up to 2020 and beyond. The pipeline of national infrastructure projects is reviewed every six months and is designed to demonstrate future investment across both the public and private sectors.

Lead economist Michael Dall from the construction intelligence firm Barbour ABI said: "This latest pipeline update will come as very positive news for the construction industry, just as the latest output and new contract figures seem to indicate that the high rate of growth is slowing."

CIHT's director of policy and technical affairs Andrew Hugill said: “Continued development of this central pipeline is welcome as it has the potential to provide both clarity and certainty across a range of infrastructure sectors.

"To be of full benefit it ultimately needs to include detail of all schemes at a local level, including those funded through Local Enterprise Partnerships."

Also the Mayor of London has just launched a long term infrastructure plan for the capital. Among the transport highlights are an extension of the Bakerloo line south towards Catford, Crossrail 2, an inner orbital tolled road tunnel and new river crossings of the Thames.
