The current statement was written in 2014 before the government’s legal commitment to achieving net zero. This 2-year review will look at the road and rail programmes in light of carbon commitments, technological developments and will take into account the changing way we use our networks.
Sue Percy, Chief Executive, CIHT said:
“We welcome the review as it will enable a structured analysis of the issues surrounding the carbon impact of the Strategic Road Network. This will create clearer parameters for managing key elements of the nation’s infrastructure and will have a significant impact on the development of future RIS periods.
CIHT recently highlighted that the roads programmes impact on net zero was seemingly an omission from the recently published Transport Decarbonisation Plan and the review now presents an opportunity to give more clarity to this vitally important area.
