The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) has today announced the appointment of Sue Percy as the Institution’s next Chief Executive.

Sue has a strong record in effective partnership working and delivery and has worked for the last 5 years for the Royal Town Planning Institute, most recently as Director of Professional Services.  In addition to leading on the strategic and operational plans for improving and extending services for their members, she has been responsible for Planning Aid England, and is a Director of RTPI’s trading company, RTPI Service Ltd.

Prior to joining RTPI, she was Head of the Academic Department of Urban, Environment and Leisure Studies at London South Bank University.

Sue Percy is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Urban Sustainable Development, and serves on the steering group of the DCLG’s Neighbourhood Planning Frontrunners and earlier as Skills steering group member for the Homes and Communities Agency.

Sue will be joining CIHT on October 3 2011 and will be undertaking a series of engagements to induct her into the Institution prior to this date. Mary Lewis will continue in her role as Chief Executive until this date.

CIHT began the process of recruiting a new Chief Executive in February this year. CIHT’s Executive Board established a selection panel chaired by Geoff Allister (President 2010-11).

Geoff Allister said:

“We are delighted to be able to appoint Sue Percy, who will bring very valuable skills to the Institution.  She will be building on Mary Lewis’ achievements over the last 10 years, to develop the Institution’s profile, and the reputation of the industry with governments and the nation“.

Sue Percy said:

“I am delighted to be joining the Institution and look forward to building on the great work that Mary Lewis has led on in recent years. For CIHT members, one of my key aims will be to extend services and champion education and training provision and attainment. I will also be focusing on making sure that the voice of the profession is heard at the highest levels of decision-making and getting out to the branches to meet members is another priority for me“.
