Effective transport systems and infrastructure underpin the UK’s economic and social welfare.  The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) has produced a manifesto that looks at the major transport issues that affect our industry today and makes recommendations on how the UK should be approaching the challenges of running a world class network.

Read the CIHT Manifesto

CIHT represents over 12,000 members who design, build, operate and maintain superior transport systems and infrastructure, whilst respecting the imperatives of improving safety, ensuring economic competitiveness and minimising environmental impact.

‘A transport manifesto for 2010’ outlines a number of recommendations that CIHT regard as being important in the next session of parliament and well beyond. CIHT calls for a long term strategy for highways and transportation, instead of short term ‘fixes’.  Only this way will we achieve improved inter-urban links by road and rail and address the growing impact of climate change while maintaining the current asset in an economically viable way.

CIHT see this document as the start of a dialogue between key stakeholders in our industry. CIHT welcome your opinions on the issues raised and would be delighted to have the opportunity to discuss this and other issues affecting our industry in more detail.

If you would like to comment on any of the issues raised in this document or discuss any relevant highways and transportation subjects, please do not hesitate to contact CIHT via our Director of Communications, Daniel Isichei on:
