The guidance reflects changes to both the standard and individual route and responds to feedback from reviewers, mentors and applicants. Under the new guidance all CIHT Professional Review applicants are assessed against UK-SPEC 4th edition.

The new guidance, which can be downloaded from the CIHT website, covers:

  • the purpose of the pre-interview assessment stage whereby applicants will not be invited to proceed to a professional review if the reviewers consider that the Portfolio of Evidence is unsatisfactory.
  • information about submitting a professional review application via the online portal, including checking that all uploaded documents are legible in the final version.
  • A reminder of the importance of sponsors, reinforcing the requirement for both sponsors to review a copy of the Portfolio of Evidence before the final version is submitted via the online portal. Sponsors of unsuccessful candidates will receive a copy of the outcome letter.
  • Information on the individual route covering the technical report, further learning report and experiential route which are now all assessed against AHEP 4.0
  • Details around plagiarism and use of outside sources
  • Information about what to do if you need reasonable adjustments.

As well as the new guidance, applicants are also supported by new evidence and experience tools which can be used to help track their progress towards UK-SPEC, within their specialism. This can be used alongside the CIHT specialisms document which helps applicants to identify their highways and transportation specialism and contextualises the UK-SPEC requirements for eight highways and transportation specialisms.

Cat Goumal, CIHT Head of Education and Professional Development said

The new guidance is an important step in supporting our members to achieve professional registration. It will help engineers to understand the requirements of professional registration and to meet the high standards expected of them.

The new guidance and supplementary resources build on the existing support for applicants including the free CIHT Learn course on preparing for Professional Review and the upcoming webinar taking place on the 15th March.
