The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) published a new report 'Checking the Health of Road Safety' last week (10 May 2012)' as part of the "Tackling the Deficit" series.
The report looks at recent policy development in road safety and at the impact of the government's austerity programme on the provision of road safety within local authorities in England. 50% of those who responded believed that the statutory duty to promote road safety was under threat. 44% answered that the strategic framework for road safety had had no effect on road safety. The report also calls for the development of a British version of Vision Zero, ever more important as deaths seem likely to rise in 2011.
