The Highways Agency has recently developed a new Asset Support Contract (ASC) for maintenance and improvements to motorways and trunk roads in England.
The ASC will replace the existing arrangements, known as Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) contracts, which currently form the basis of maintenance agreements on most parts of the Agency's network. The new contract is expected to deliver substantial savings over the current arrangements and will help to achieve the Government's commitment to reducing the budget deficit over the lifetime of this parliament.
Derek Turner, Deputy Chief Executive of the Highways Agency explains to Justin Ward the benefits of the new outcome based contracts and offers some advice to companies looking to bid to win the new ASCs.
