Tricia Hayes FCIHT – the Department for Transport’s director general for roads – becomes a Companion of the Order of the Bath for services to transport; National Infrastructure Commissioner Bridget Rosewell is made a CBE for services to the economy; and Leon Daniels, a former managing director for surface transport with Transport for London, becomes an OBE.

British Empire Medals are bestowed on Alan Johnson MCIHT, a programme manager with TfL; Elina Kamellard from the DfT’s cycling and walking policy team; and Judith Tracey, a DfT information officer for road safety standards.

James Richardson, the National Infrastructure Commission’s chief economist, becomes a Companion of the Order of the Bath for public service; and John Gibbon Wood of Tolent Construction is made a CBE for services to building and civil engineering.

Stephen Fidler – the DfT’s deputy director looking after the Road Investment Strategy – is made an OBE; as is Catherine De Marco, the DfT’s deputy director for infrastructure, skills and efficiency.

Further recipients of the OBE include Abolade Abisogun of Urbanis for services to diversity and young people in the construction industry; Scotland’s Traffic Commissioner Joan Aitken; the University of Cambridge’s director for its centre for smart infrastructure and construction Jennifer Schooling; the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency’s chief driving examiner Lesley Young and London Transport Museum director Sam Mullins.

Those receiving the MBE include Mervyn Allcock for services to railway preservation; Richard Bristow for services to transport in London; David Pike from the DfT’s land transport security division; Susan Rogers from Mobility Centres of England and Stefanie Stead of the Construction Industry Council for services to architecture and the construction industry.

Tricia Hayes said of her award: “I was absolutely thrilled to be awarded this honour and am very excited about going to the Palace with my family later in the year. I’ve worked in transport for more than 30 years and found it endlessly fascinating and so critical to the day to day life of our country. I am so proud of the brilliant civil servants that I work with every day, and of the committed public service delivered by our whole team.”

Bridget Rosewell said: “It’s an honour to be recognised for a contribution to the economy and still more as it is based on my work over the years to promote investment in infrastructure which supports the economy in terms of jobs, productivity and housing. However, this is no time to be resting on one’s laurels. There is still much to do in developing our thinking on how long term infrastructure policy is set, and how we finance and fund it.”

Leon Daniels said: “I am deeply honoured and appreciative of this honour. I accept it acknowledging the many hundreds of dedicated transport professionals, at all levels, who have contributed to my success and that of the organisations in which we have worked.

“Transport may be a ‘Cinderella’ industry, but nowhere else have I ever experienced such a family of dedicated people who work tirelessly to deliver a safe and attractive service day after day.”

Alan Johnson said: “I am delighted to receive this honour and am passionate about the work I do to ensure that we keep everybody moving in the capital in the most effective way.”

Catherine De Marco said: “I was completely taken aback by my nomination, and when the news had time to sink in, delighted. It is wonderful that work to promote active travel and skills within the transport sector has been recognised in this way, and I am very proud to have been a part of it. My family are delighted and it is great to have received so many kind words from colleagues across the sector since the New Year.”
