Council meets four times a year in London and is responsible for advising the Board of Trustees on the strategic and professional direction of the Institution.

It acts as a sounding board for Trustees and directors as part of policy development and also hosts outside speakers who contribute to debate, helping to shape CIHT positioning on specific issues.

In addition Council’s role includes approving nominations for honorary fellowships and awards, and the appointment of the Institution’s Vice President. Members serve on Council for three years after which they can seek re-election for a further term.

“It’s great to be part of setting the organisation’s priorities and strategic direction, especially at such an exciting time for the transport industry,” said current Council member Jo Field of JFG Communications.

“We need Council to represent as diverse a range of perspectives as possible, so I’d encourage anyone interested to put their name forward. I’m sure you will find it as rewarding an experience as I do.”

She added: “New members need to be committed and have the time to take part. An interest in supporting and inspiring the industry’s next generation of workers is helpful, and a desire to contribute positively to CIHT’s future direction.”

Council nominations must be supported by eight voting members (fellows or full members) and submitted online at mi-nomination.com/ciht by 22 February.
