Workload appears to be picking up across the transportation sector and in particular in Wales, where the Welsh Government and local authorities are pushing ahead with several major schemes.
One consultant responding to the upturn and planning ahead is Parsons Brinckerhoff. The company is hosting a recruitment event for experienced professionals next Monday afternoon, 30 September, in Cardiff.
The recruitment event will give engineers and planners the opportunity to hear about the company's plans for growth in Wales and to find out about opportunities for employment. Jobs are on offer to individuals with at least two or three years of practical work experience, along with those who have recently become Chartered Engineers or those looking to become principal engineers or manage teams.
The event is being held at the Angel Hotel on Castle Street in Cardiff from 4pm until 8pm. Refreshments will be available and there is no need to register in advance to attend.
Parsons Brinckerhoff is growing its business to take advantage of the continued increase in commercial opportunities in the areas of highways, transportation and other areas of civil engineering. The company is winning work across Wales through a number of large public sector consultancy frameworks and is also seeing renewed interest in projects among clients in the private sector.
"Our order book is growing and there are several huge projects on the horizon," said the company's regional director for highways in Wales, Russell Bennett FCIHT. "We are pleased with the continued improvement in the market - there is certainly more confidence in the highways sector now. This was supported by the Welsh Government when it announced a series of major transport projects this summer."
Parsons Brinckerhoff is a multi disciplinary consultancy with a UK transportation turnover of over £90M. It has over 900 transport staff in the UK, up a quarter on last year. The company is the professional services division of Balfour Beatty and is among the top 10 consultants in planning, roads, rail, airports and urban transport according to the 2013 Transportation Consultants Directory.
"On the highways side we have a strong track record of delivering work along the M4, widening roads around Cardiff, improving the A40 in South West Wales and introducing several safety schemes," said Mr Bennett.
"In rail we have been successful in winning work with Network Rail, for example on an electrification programme on the Great Western Railway and providing maintenance services on the Gwent Valley lines. We've also been supporting Cardiff Airport with improvements to its landside access."
Beyond Wales, the company offers wider career opportunities through its project workload around the world, including substantial projects in the Middle East and the United States.
"Technical excellence is a core value of our firm and we pride ourselves on how we respond to our clients' needs," Mr Bennett added. "We also strive to help the local authorities we work with and the Welsh Government to meet their objectives in a cost effective manner."
