These questions and more are explored in the latest episode of the CIHT Podcast, in which the Institution’s senior policy officer Justin Ward speaks with construction firm GRAHAM’s human resources director Michael Smyth.
Michael explains how the company wants to become a ‘leader for wellbeing’ within the industry and talks about a programme known as CONNECT that has been developed.
This has seen a number of positive outcomes including increasing numbers of employees signing up for wellbeing activities, a reduction in workplace absences and a lower than average turnover of staff.
Michael also explains how the company manages challenges inherent to the construction industry, such as its traditionally male dominated workforce that is often reluctant to seek advice, and the fact employees are spread across sites.
The podcast was produced in support of a recent CIHT roundtable event on Wellbeing and the Bottom Line. Videos from this event will be shortly available on the CIHT YouTube channel.
