Young professionals keen to demonstrate their competence in delivering technical papers are invited to make a submission to the CIHT Colas Presentation Award.

The national final of the once every two year competition is next due to take place in autumn 2015 in central London. In the meantime individuals looking to take part are encouraged to contact their local branches.

This week an email is being circulated by CIHT at Britannia Walk to all branch officers, encouraging them to promote the competition to their members and host regional heats over the coming year.

“We are hoping that every branch is able to host a regional heat and receives a good number of entries,” said CIHT communications officer Sally Carrington. “Branches are welcome to contact us if they feel they need help in setting up local competitions.”

Assistance in running regional heats is also offered by the award sponsor Colas. “The Presentation Award is an initiative aimed at young professionals’ skills development and sponsoring it is very important to us,” a company spokesman said.

“We aim to provide as much support as we can, bring people on from a young age and further progress their careers through training and guidance. Our continued sponsorship of the awards shows we are dedicated to this measure and the industry.”

Last year’s award featured eight finalists, each representing a local branch. The competition was won by senior project manager Chris Young of the West Midlands Branch for his presentation about a public realm improvement in Coventry city centre.
