H. Ladin Camci, Technical Development Manager, speaking on behalf of Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steel (CARES), made his presentation on 8^th May 2018.

He addressed the important issues relating to CARES and sustainable steel products. CARES is an international and independent not-for-profit product and management systems certification body which was established in 1983 in the UK. It assures the product quality and environmental credentials of constructional steel used in major infrastructure projects with certifying constructional steel in over 40 countries worldwide.

CARES provides confidence to the users, purchasers and specifiers of constructional steels through a regime of regulation, testing and inspection. Mr. Ladin Camci presented on how CARES' certification covers all stages in the supply chain from the processing of raw materials, manufacturing of constructional steel and construction products through to the product installation or delivery to the customers. The audience also learnt that there is a monitoring scheme to ensure quality not only by testing but also by surveillance audits, stakeholder involvements and using other different methods and marketing strategies.

Given that Qatar is developing rapidly with many ongoing and planned construction projects, it is of assurance to learn from the presentation that a number of companies in Qatar have been producing high level steel bars and other steel products and are authorized by CARES.

The presentation was well received by the audience, with a detailed question and answer session following the main presentation.
