Rethinking Transport Finance and Funding (28/02/2020) has been produced by Arup in collaboration with London Transport Museum as part of its thought leadership programme, Interchange. The report addresses the challenge of public transport infrastructure in achieving adequate funding and financing.
The report centres around four topics:
The conclusions presented draws on roundtable discussions with transport, legal and finance industry leaders, policy makers and academics as part of Interchange, London Transport Museum’s thought leadership programme. CIHT also took part in these discussion.
On road charging the report says that technology, such as 'Mobility as a Service', provides a chance to start charging for road space, which in turn would allow cities to be able to harness more of the resources they need to tackle transport problems and secure continued economic growth.
"Central government funding has long underpinned transport infrastructure projects in the UK. But to cope with increased competition as new projects get off the ground, a central vision and timeline for public funding is needed, and must be coupled with the harnessing of new financing opportunities" the report states in the conclusion.
