A new five year strategy was launched last Wednesday by the Highways Term Maintenance Association.
The strategy for its members aims to better reflect the challenging economic conditions which continue to have a bearing on the road renewals sector.
It also sets out a series of key objectives including the creation of an industry training and accreditation forum and the greater sharing of best practice among its members.
HTMA executive director Geoff Allister FCIHT said: "Our previous strategy was very good and was only published three years ago, but the financial situation has changed significantly since then and the ways in which local authorities procure work has altered too."
Further details about the work of the Highways Term Maintenance Association can be read in the December edition of Transportation Professional, to be published at the beginning of next week.
The issue contains a special 26 page report into 'Innovation' currently on display in the transportation sector. Articles include a look at a method of ground improvement used on the Crossrail project, known as compensation grouting, and launch of interactive maps to help professional users manage their transport networks.
New technology designed to keep roadworkers safe on site, a novel approach to highway maintenance collaboration in London, and developments in the haulage of rail freight also feature.
