CIHT’s Society of Road Safety Auditors says its new online guidance manual has been developed specifically to assist those new to road safety auditing – or not involved in the practice on a full time basis – to understand their roles and responsibilities through the audit process.
“We are delighted to be able to launch this very important guidance in response to a growing need across the road safety audit community,” said SoRSA chair Stewart Knowles.
He explained: “We have produced this guidance to supplement the information contained within DMRB GG119 Road Safety Audit (and its successor documents). It has not been developed to replace the national standard but will provide useful information and guidance to developers, local authorities, designers and auditors on how to apply good road safety audit practice when it is not appropriate (or possible) to comply fully with the requirements of DMRB standards.”
The guidance takes the form of an online manual and will be regularly updated to reflect latest developments and examples of good and current practice. It has been designed in easy to use sections that detail requirements for each of the key parties and how to undertake specific tasks throughout the road safety audit process.
“While the guidance is primarily focused on the UK road network, it is acknowledged that international road authorities may approach some of these stages differently. However, we recommend the adoption of these practices internationally,” added Stewart Knowles.
