Road Safety in India: Maruti Suzuki collaborates with India's public sector to reduce road deaths

The Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, calls upon public-private collaboration for reducing road accidents and improving road safety, as the minister commits to achieve a 50% reduction in road deaths by 2025. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) delivery road safety initiatives across India in collaboration with state officials.

Road safety is an ongoing concern in India, with around 80,000 people being killed in road accidents every year which accounts for 30% of the total global fatality. The Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and state officials are committed to reducing road accidents in line with the nations target to achieve a 50% reduction in road deaths by 2025.

The Indian Government have stated they will aim "to provide road safety information for road users to encourage safer road user behaviour among current and prospective road users and reduce the number of people killed and injured on our roads every year". An integral part to achieving this, the Government of India have announced initiatives to raise awareness about road safety issues and also calls upon public-private collaboration.

in line of this, the Haryana state Transport Department have collaborated with automobile company, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), launching the Model Road Safety Knowledge Centre in Faridabad. While 80% of road accidents in India are due to human error, the centre will play an important role in changing driving behavioiurs and educating drivers on road safety.

Maruti Suzuki are associated with the delivery of other road safety initiatives across India, including Traffic Safety Management System (TSMS) and Automated Driving Test Centres (ADTC). If you would like to read more about Maruti Suzuki's road safety initiatives, click here.

Alongside this, the Haryana Driving manual and Sadak Sansar book was released which covers topics such as: safe and responsible driving, renewal of driving license, rules of the road, traffic signs and road signs. 

CIHT support and encourage the development of long-term strategies, such as those in Haryana, for significantly reducing the number of people killed and injured on roads globally.
